Easter weekend is a VERY popular time to travel.  It’ll be wall to wall people in a lot of favoured destinations.  Is Easter something that you celebrate spiritually?

If you do,  it’s great fun to seek out your traditional place of worship wherever you may roam worldwide.   In far away places, you can find the spiritual comfort of home and it’s a really happy feeling.  I’ve had the pleasure of visiting and attending services in some amazing churches on my travels.  But of course most churches encourage everyone to enter and simply enjoy the history, architecture, and masterpieces of art. Some of the elaborate structures are astounding and not to be missed. Truly inspirational!

Once upon a time, my husband proposed in our local basilica with no one there except for an organist practising in the choir loft above.  That wasn’t planned, but made for a really special moment and we went up and booked him on the spot to play at our wedding.  My guy proposed again on the steps of a church in Killarney, Ireland while we vacationed there.  Yes, he’s super romantic and you can groan all you want.

In the ancient Cathédrale Saint Sauveur, in Aix-en-Provence, France I had a really eerie feeling that I had been there before, and that somehow I belonged there.  It was spooky weird and not an experience that I had had before.  Ahhh, the magic of travel!

You might enjoy this practice.  I enjoy lighting a candle for a loved one in churches that I visit and then thinking about that candle burning (for a while anyway) after  I have left.  It’s a nice gift that you don’t have to pack.

To those of you who celebrate, Happy Easter!
